Thanksgiving at FunTalk
At FunTalk, we are convinced that learning English happens when you experience and live a language firsthand. And so, what better way to live and practice English than by celebrating one of America’s greatest holidays? Thanksgiving. For the past 6 years, our 
UPC students joined forces with GetEnglish (now part of FunTalk) to put together an unforgettable feast every year. This year, however,
was the first in which FunTalk hosted a Thanksgiving celebration at its new English center in Barcelona.
Practicing English while enjoying a great meal
The students’ participation is not limited to practicing their English during the meal. The first thing they do in preparation is read several recipes in English and choose a side dish or dessert to cook as part of their contribution to the Thanksgiving feast. Throughout this (celebrated) activity, lots of practical and real-life language skills and English vocabulary are used both individually and in groups. FunTalk provides 
turkey and pumpkin pie while students lend a hand by bringing something from home. Then we eat, laugh, have fun and celebrate life!
The most important part of this collective celebration, besides stuffing ourselves with very tasty food, is simply to give thanks. Each person participates in this very personal and endearing moment by sharing what he or she is grateful for. This gesture should be practiced more often and not only at Thanksgiving: stop to reflect and express our gratitude by giving thanks for what we have. It is this gesture that makes Thanksgiving special and memorable. Everyone who came to the Thanksgiving potluck this year also expressed their thanks in writing on cards that were later hung on FunTalk’s “Wall of Gratitude.”

Therefore, we are immensely grateful to all our students for allowing both GetEnglish and FunTalk to be possible and to grow. 
We are very grateful for your participation and enthusiasm in learning English and look forward to continuing to provide a relaxed and open space where you can feel comfortable and have real fun while practicing English, with the goal of learning English once and for all.

Celebrating Thanksgiving at FunTalk

For the past 6 years, our students from the UPC have teamed up with GetEnglish (now part of FunTalk) to help make an unforgettable feast every year, however, this year was the first Thanksgiving celebration at FunTalk.
Students not only participate in the day by practicing their English over a big meal, but firstly they read several recipes in English and choose a traditional side dish or dessert to make to contribute to the Thanksgiving feast. Lots of real, practical language and vocabulary is practiced throughout this activity
both on their own and shared with the group. FunTalk provides the turkey and pumpkin pie and all the students pitch in and bring their own homemade dish. Then we eat, laugh, and celebrate life!
The most important part of this celebration together, while we are stuffing ourselves full of tasty food, is simply giving thanks. Each person participates in this intimate moment and shares what they are grateful for. This is an activity we should all do more often and not just at Thanksgiving, to stop and reflect and
express our gratitude and give thanks to what we have. This is what makes Thanksgiving so special and memorable. This year everybody who came to lunch also wrote what they were grateful for on cards and posted them on the FunTalk ‘Wall of Gratitude’.
So, we are extremely thankful for our students that allow both GetEnglish and FunTalk to exist and grow. We appreciate your participation and enthusiasm when it comes to learning English and we hope we can continue providing a friendly and open environment where you feel comfortable and have fun practicing your English, with the goal of learning English for life.
