At FunTalk, we are convinced that learning English happens when you experience and live a language firsthand. And so, what better way to live and practice English than by celebrating one of America’s greatest holidays? Thanksgiving. For the past 6 years, our
UPC students joined forces with GetEnglish (now part of FunTalk) to put together an unforgettable feast every year. This year, however,
was the first in which FunTalk hosted a Thanksgiving celebration at its new English center in Barcelona.
Practicing English while enjoying a great meal
The students’ participation is not limited to practicing their English during the meal. The first thing they do in preparation is read several recipes in English and choose a side dish or dessert to cook as part of their contribution to the Thanksgiving feast. Throughout this (celebrated) activity, lots of practical and real-life language skills and English vocabulary are used both individually and in groups. FunTalk provides
turkey and pumpkin pie while students lend a hand by bringing something from home. Then we eat, laugh, have fun and celebrate life!
The most important part of this collective celebration, besides stuffing ourselves with very tasty food, is simply to give thanks. Each person participates in this very personal and endearing moment by sharing what he or she is grateful for. This gesture should be practiced more often and not only at Thanksgiving: stop to reflect and express our gratitude by giving thanks for what we have. It is this gesture that makes Thanksgiving special and memorable. Everyone who came to the Thanksgiving potluck this year also expressed their thanks in writing on cards that were later hung on FunTalk’s “Wall of Gratitude.”
Our thanks to the students of FunTalk: the innovative English language center in Barcelona.
Therefore, we are immensely grateful to all our students for allowing both GetEnglish and FunTalk to be possible and to grow.
We are very grateful for your participation and enthusiasm in learning English and look forward to continuing to provide a relaxed and open space where you can feel comfortable and have real fun while practicing English, with the goal of learning English once and for all.

In just six short weeks, FunTalk has opened its doors and students of all ages
have joined us to try out this new educational experience in English. The students have experienced learning English in a totally new, enjoyable and interactive way that has nothing to do with sitting at a desk in front of a book, but rather with experiencing and using the language first hand.
So, what have our Funtalkers been doing these past six weeks? the last six weeks?
You’ll want to take a look at some photos and videos (below) to see what’s been cooking at FunTalk these past few weeks.
Our Funtalkers They have made their shopping lists; they have gone to the supermarket to buy the ingredients they needed; they have made delicious cookies; they have created papier-mâché masks and painted them; they have reproduced the house where they live with small articulated windows included to be able to communicate with the rest of the family members; they have gone to the park to explain to each other the rules of the games they like the most; they have used all and every one of the huge open spaces
offered by FunTalk to get the students moving (yes, you can learn English on the move!); they’ve drawn lots of pictures on the whiteboard on the main wall where the FunTalk emblem is; and the adults have even shared a glass of wine during their conversation classes.
And in case you have any doubts about what the students think of this new educational experience in English, here are some of their comments:
We are delighted, thank you so much for making it so fun and enjoyable for the girls.
– Marga
Looking forward to Friday to attend the Fun talk classes is a joy.
– Marta Casals

Last Thursday, September 22, FunTalk celebrated its opening party and opened its doors to curious minds
of all ages, children, youth and adults, to present a new experience in learning English. Thanks to the fusion of entertaining dynamic classes with interactive workshops in EnglishThe students have the opportunity to live and experience the language firsthand.
But first of all, we want to say a big thank you to all of you who came to the celebration and to those who helped make it a success. In case you missed out on the fun, here’s a little taste of the big day and a sneak preview of what FunTalk’s
interactive workshops
in English
FunTalk will be like this year.
The theme of FunTalk’s inauguration was the world of the circus and our great
FunTalk team
organized four simultaneous workshops in English. Even before crossing the threshold of the center, you could not miss our clown juggler on stilts jokingly welcoming all the attendees.
The professor of technology was the first to be visited in our particular circus and with him our guests were involved in a treasure hunt The system took students through the school’s classrooms using a system of barcodes that scanned them to help them find the next classroom they needed to go to and then find the next barcode.
Our arts and crafts teacher organized an activity in English in the arts and crafts classroom where the students had to identify various shapes and colors and then glue them on a disposable plate to create a funny clown face. Next, our circus skills teacher had prepared in various classrooms an ingenious obstacle course which was full of fun games; walking on a tightrope, shooting balls into a lion’s mouth, guessing and correctly placing the different parts of a clown’s body, and finally drawing everyone’s favorite animal on a blackboard.
Arriving at the last of the classrooms, the FunTalk kitchen had become a sweet chocolate workshop
where students had to correctly identify the English vocabulary of each ingredient and then follow the recipe to make their own delicious chocolate. Parents and adults even had the opportunity to
opportunity to participate in a cocktail workshop, following the same pattern as the chocolate workshop; identify the vocabulary in English with the correct ingredients to finally elaborate an exquisite cocktail.
All activities and workshops are in English and reflect our philosophy of teaching English in a fun, dynamic and interactive way. Registration opens this week and FunTalk courses start the first week of October, so be sure to check back soon!

Last Thursday the 22nd of September, FunTalk held its inauguration party and opened its doors to all ages, for children, teens, and adults, to show a new language learning experience. By combining fun dynamic classes with interactive workshops, students have the opportunity to live and experience the language first hand.
First of all, thank you very much to all of you who came to celebrate with us and who helped make it a success. In case
you missed out on the fun, here’s a little taste of what happened and what the courses will be like for this year.
The FunTalk inauguration was based on a circus theme and there were a total of four workshops running at the same time organized by our fantastic FunTalk team. Before reaching our doors, you couldn’t help but see our juggling clown on stilts giving you a fun welcome. Guests were firstly directed to our technology teacher who designed a treasure hunt which took students through each
room on the premises using QR codes to scan each code which then gave you a clue that lead to the next room and the next QR code.
Our arts and crafts teacher organized an event in the arts and crafts room where students had to identify shapes and colors, then stick the colorful shapes on
a paper plate to create a crazy clown face. Then moving back through the rooms, our circus teacher created an obstacle course full of fun games, such as walking on a tight rope, throwing a ball through a lion’s mouth, identifying and placing body parts on a clown, and finally drawing your own favorite animal on the chalk board. Moving on to the last room, the FunTalk Kitchen turned into a chocolate making activity, where students had to match vocabulary with the ingredients and followed a recipe to make their own delicious chocolate. Parents and adults even had the chance to participate in a cocktail making workshop, again identifying vocabulary with the ingredients to make
their own tasty cocktail.
All activities are in English and demonstrate our fun, dynamic and interactive way of learning. Registration is this week and FunTalk courses begin the first week of October, so sign up now before the classes fill up!
